Child and Adolescent Service

Ascend Psychology Parramatta offers a range of services for children and adolescents; our services primarily involve a two-step process which includes 1) a comprehensive assessment of the child or teen via various methods (such as parent and/child interviews, standardised assessment tools, school observations (if necessary)). Liaison with teacher/s and other relevant third parties (e.g., Paediatricians, school counsellors) are also initiated to obtain a greater breadth of information, 2) an evidence-based approach to treatment which is tailored to the individual needs and strengths of the child or teen, includes a team approach with parents and other significant personnel which may be helpful to include in treatment (e.g., other siblings, teacher/school, Paediatricians, GPs).

We offer diagnostic assessments and evidence-based interventions for the following clinical presentations:
•Autism Spectrum Disorders
•Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
•Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
•Conduct Disorder
•Anxiety (e.g., fears/worries, panic attacks, generalised anxiety, social phobia, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD))
•Mood problems (e.g., sadness/depression)
•High-risk behaviours (e.g., suicidal ideation, self-harm behaviours (such as cutting, scratching))
•Eating Disorders (e.g., Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia)
•Adjustment difficulties (e.g., parent separation, relationship break-up, parent illness/death)
•Mild-to-moderate intellectual disability

We also offer assessments and interventions for the following child and adolescent presentations:
•Emotional dysregulation (e.g., anger, temper tantrums)
•Behaviours of concern (e.g., aggression, defiance, argumentative)
•School transition/School refusal
•Sleep problems (e.g., delayed sleep onset, night-time awakenings)
•Social skills difficulties (e.g., difficulties making friends, bullying concerns)
•Adolescent health issues (e.g., drug or alcohol use, sexual health concerns)
